Update, June 2012: The Diamond Queen slot is now available to play online at MoneyGaming.
I was playing at a casino in England yesterday (Rendezvous in Brighton) and came across the Diamond Queen slot machine, an IGT game I had never previously seen, yet alone played. Not sure if this is a brand new game or, more likely, one that has just made our shores and been around in the US for a while. But I didn’t see it in Vegas in November at Encore or Green Valley Ranch.
Diamond Queen is being released online in May 2012 – watch this space for more info!
The free spins bonus is quite original and unusually for an IGT slot, has expanding wilds. You trigger the feature on the Diamond Queen slot like you do with Kitty Glitter or the Cats slot – the bonus scatter symbol visible on reels 2, 3 and 4.
When you get the free spins, you get awarded 3 which initially you think is a bit crap. But there are two things that really make it very decent. Firstly, every time the Bonus symbol appears you get an extra spin and secondly you get Diamond Queen wild reels! On the first spin, reel 2 is wild. On the second spin, reels 2 and 3 are wild and on the 3rd spin, reels 2,3 and 4 are all wild. If you get an extra spin awarded, the wild reels stay as they are for that spin.
This feature worked out neat – I got it twice while I was playing and each time got 50x or thereabouts with most of it, as you’d expect, coming on the last free spin. Because the Diamond Queen slot also has stacked diamonds, you could end up with a massive payout if these land on reels 1 and 5 on the 3rd free spin!
For the record, the Diamond Quen slot is quoted by IGT as being “high volatility” so play carefully. The free spins regularity is low and that is where the big payouts are more likely. It has 20 paylines and stacked Diamond Queen symbols (missing from the base game in the online version). The online version has an RTP range of 92-96%. (Virgin Casino has it set to just under 95%).
